To the fells!
 

The easiest and safest way to get on to the fells is to join a guided snowmobile excursion. Participants can either drive a snowmobile by themselves or take a sled ride.  Warm clothes and insurances are included in  the price. Minimum amount of participants four persons. All trips only under good weather conditions.

 

The world's most peaceful border
 
A snowmobile excursion to the border of Finland, Sweden and Norway along the ice-covered Lake Kilpisjärvi. The yellow boundary marker is situated 15 kilometres from Kilpisjärvi village. The snowmobile route follows the border of Finland and Sweden, winding by the side of Malla Nature Reserve and partially on the Swedish side of the border.

The snowmobile route to the boundary marker is easy to drive and suitable even for a beginner. On the way back we take a coffee break in Kuohkimajärvi log cabin.

 

 

Celebrating on the fells
 
Many people have celebrated their birthdays, weddings and many other special occasions in Kilpisjärvi. Numerous happy couples have tied the knot on the top of Saana or Halti. 

Maybe you just want to make your dog happy and bring him or her for a snowmobile ride in Kilpisjärvi.

 

Snowmobile/ski trip to Kuonjarjohka
 

Are you tired of climbing up the slopes on your skiing trips? There are no skilifts in Kilpisjärvi but there is a functioning alternative available. You can take a snowmobile lift to Kuonjarjohka and enjoy 20 kilometres of - mostly - downhill skiing all the way back to Kilpisjärvi.

 

 

Raittijärvi Sami village
 

Raittijärvi is a unique village by any standard. It is situated about 30 kilometres from Kilpisjärvi in the middle of wilderness. There is no road leading to the village. In summer it can be reached only on foot or by plane. In winter snowmobiles offer the easiest means of transportation.  Raittijärvi is inhabited by Sami reindeer herders throughout the year.

Ice fishing in the fells
 

Kilpisjärvi village is surrounded by fells, and there are hundreds of small lakes and ponds in the fell area. Water is clear and pure - and full of fish. The little lakes suitable for ice-fishing are situated 5 - 20 kilometres from the village. It is possible to catch for example trout and char.

Ice-fishing on a sunny spring day is great fun. Ice-fishing excursion is made by snowmobile, sitting in the sledge. Proper clothing and fishing equipment are included in price. While fishing participants enjoy lunch (coffee/tea and snacks) by campfire.

 

In quest of Aurora Borealis
 
If you are searching for northern lights, Kilpisjärvi is the best place to start your quest. Kilpisjärvi is located exactly in the aurora borealis zone of Northern Hemisphere.


When the skies are clear - and they often are - the Northern lights are visible on three nights out of four. Dancing, colourful lights illuminate the sky. No wonder, many aurora researcher and photographers feel home in Kilpisjärvi area.


It is possible to observe the northern lights even in the village but if you enjoy watching the night sky in total darkness you have to leave the village. Our guided tours will take you safely to the fells at midnight when the arctic night sky reveals all its secrets. Depending the season, this excursion is made by car or snowmobile. You will also hear about old beliefs and local customs concerning northern lights.

 

The Arctic Ocean and mountains of Norway and Sweden
 
The Arctic Ocean with its magnificent fjord is only 50 kilometres from Kilpisjärvi village. There is a snowmobile route from Kilpisjärvi to Norwegian vilage of Oteren which lies on the coast of the Arctic Ocean.
